Though there is usually tons of drama between Lucious and Cookie Lyon on Empire, it was all love between Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard during their Taraji and Terrence's White Hot Holidays special on Fox, which aired Wednesday night.
The stars of the hit drama series hosted a star-studded holiday variety show which included classic holiday song performances by John Legend, Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, and Mary J. Blige. Each of the singers also shared some of their touching holiday memories and traditions in video asides. Henson and Howard were even joined by their Empire cast members Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Y. Gray for some festive carols including "Joy to the World" and "All You Need is Love."
In addition to some great singing, there were also some hilarious moments like when Henson and Howard did their best Kim Kardashian and Kanye West impressions for a skit called "Kim & Kanye's Christmas Party." Henson wore a black-and-white form-fitting dress—and a very embellished, fake posterior to get Kardashian's assets just right. It was a party where TMZ cameras were given better treatment than the guests and selfies were a requirement. Howard, wearing a black sparkly hoodie as West, declared it to be the "best Christmas party since the first Christmas party, when Jesus was there." Howard and Henson also did a sketch where they played a father and young daughter, complete with Henson in footie pajamas. At the end of the show, Henson gave Howard the ultimate Christmas gift: a hoverboard!
The show did have some light moments, but as Henson said beforehand, the purpose was to being "a whole lot of fun and holiday joy. That's what we're missing right now."
Well it will be tough to wait until March 2016 for the next new episode of Empire, but this is a pretty good gift in the meantime. Watch Blige sing the classic holiday tune "The Christmas Song" in the clip below on Taraji and Terrence's White Hot Holidays.
