Given we're in the throes of election season, it's no surprise that presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is making headlines. But at a South by Southwest panel this weekend, the former First Lady is landing in headlines for other reasons: she's set to make a cameo on Broad City.
It's not the first time the Comedy Central show has used bold-faced names in its roster. Vanessa Williams and Whoopi Goldberg are also set to guest star this season. "It elevates" what we do, said actor Ilana Glazer, who plays the character Ilana on the show. "Our whole team only gets stronger, the more experience they gain.
"We work with amazing team of people that are constantly working with us in different ways on press and different collaborators," said Abbi JacobsOn, the show's creator. In fact, Jacobson sees Clinton's cameo as more of an artistic endeavor rather than a political statement.
“We were not trying to make a statement, to be honest,” Jacobson said, adding that Amy Poehler helped secure Clinton for the show. “We wrote Season 3 a year ago, at this point. That’s not our show really: Let’s make a political stance here. It was really more that this is something Ilana’s character would do. Hillary, even regardless of where we stand – and we love Hillary–is such an iconic figure... These girls being around her is not an everyday thing.”
Clinton will be surrounded by good company for the show. Along with the cast, Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch will also make appearances.
Tune in to Comedy Central on March 16 at 10 p.m. ET to catch Clinton in action.
