Holiday party season is officially upon us, and while we're fans of champagne and punch, it can get repetitive after a few booze-filled gatherings. That's why we're rallying behind this creative yet unexpected strawberry tequila drink, "Tequila por mi Amante" (translation: tequila for my lover), courtesy of bartender Julian Cox, the mixology mastermind behind L.A.'s buzzy new cocktail lounge The Fiscal Agent. "The fruitiness of the strawberries combined with the subtle spice from the chilies make this one a major crowd pleaser," Cox tells InStyle. We'll cheers to that! Read on for the recipe.
Tequila por mi Amante
Makes: One cocktail
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz simple syrup ($12; surlatable.com)
1/2 oz Cocchi di Torrino ($22; winemadeeasy.com)
2 oz Ocho Plata Tequila ($52; thewineclub.com)
1 tsp acid phosphate ($24; amazon.com)
1 pinch of salt
1 dash of thai bird eye chilies ($18 ; jet.com)
Basil flowers (optional)
1. Muddle strawberries and chilies in tin. Add lemon juice, syrup, Cocchi di Torrino, tequila, acid phosphate, and salt and shake together.
2. Strain over ice in a large bucket or an old fashioned glass and garnish with basil flowers if desired.
