Look on the bright side: You don't have to abandon smoky eyes for the summer-just lighten 'em up so they feel fresh. Silver-accentuated eyes were on display for fall, with Donna Karan’s monochrome, architectural collection complemented by models’ metallic lids, whether lining the inner corner or dabbed outwards for an all-out smoky effect. While high fashion has set the trend, silver-lined eyes are appropriate for non-runway occasions, including the red carpet or for a night-out, as seen Taylor Swift, Anna Kendrick, and most notably,  color-obsessed Lupita Nyong’o.

To get the look, trace upper lash lines with a black pencil, such as Lancome's Le Stylo Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner in "Noir," then run it over the outer eye corners and creases until you get a sexy smoulder, says Nyong'o's makeup artist, Nick Barose. On top of the dark shade, brush on a shimmery white shadow, like Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre Luminous Eyeshadow in "Fantasme." This combo creates a metallic finish that's "ethereal with an edge," he says. Dab the pearly hue over the inner corners for an illuminating finish.
