The 2015 American Music Awards brought out some of fashion's savviest, which as it so happens, meant the sexiest as well. After sifting through the parade of exceptional red carpet looks (along with Jennifer Lopez's impressive tally of 10 outfit changes), we highlighted the top three standout trends from the night.
Most noticeably was the outrageous amount of sheer. Transparency is by no means novel idea (sheer dresses and tops have ruled the red carpet for as long as we can remember), but the latest spin on the trend is layering bodysuits, aka this season's most in-demand piece, underneath. Gwen Stefani dialed up the drama in a black ruffled sheer Yousef Al-Jasmi creation that exposed her enviably lean legs (above, left). Hannah Davis had the same idea with a pastel sparkle-encrusted Naeem Khan column that showed off her limbs (center). Ever the fashion risk-taker, Lopez's take on the bodysuit included high-waist black bottoms and a nude bra underneath her sheer star-spangled Zuhair Murad Couture kaftan gown (right).
The second most prevalent trend was the over-exposed back. Kendall Jenner debuted her new 'do in an Oriett Domenech LBD that seemed rather modest from the front, but was incredibly scandalous from the back (above, left). Selena Gomez's ruby Givenchy number also revealed a back that dipped dangerously low (center), as did Demi Lovato's gilded Lorena Sarbu gown, though hers had a sheer illusion panel (right).
Finally, the sexiest trend of the night went to extreme cut-outs. Gigi Hadid turned heads in her racy lace-up cut-out separates by Bao Tranchi, while Kylie Jenner dropped jaws in her risque leather cut-out Bryan Hearns number with metal mesh panels. And lastly, Lopez once again stunned in another one of her unforgettable outfits—a light blue gown treated to cut-outs and skinny straps going every which way.
