When a celebrity announces that they've had a baby, it's usually fairly straightforward. But Late Night talk show host Seth Meyers and his wife, human rights attorney Alexi Ashe, welcomed their second child—a boy named Axel Strahl—in a less conventional way.
The couple had their new baby in the apartment of their lobby. They weren't quite prepared for how quickly it happened, and when they realized the baby was coming, they couldn't make it into their Uber in time.
"My wife just says, 'I can't get in that car. I'm going to have the baby right now. The baby is coming,'" Meyers recounted on his show Monday night. Ashe laid on the lobby floor as he called for help.
“I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I basically said, ‘We’re about to have a baby … we’re having a baby … we had a baby,’” he said.
Despite the unexpected and speedy delivery, the New York Police Department and Fire Department arrived quickly after Axel's birth, and neighbors helped the couple by putting towels in dryers to keep him warm.
This isn't the first time the family has cut it close with a birth. Meyers's eldest son Ashe Olsen, 2, was nearly born in an Uber. "Move over that story, because that's so normal compared to what happened yesterday," Meyers deadpanned.
Thankfully everyone involved is healthy. Watch Meyers recount the dramatic delivery above.
