Sarah Michelle Gellar was feeling understandably nostalgic yesterday. Not long after using an Instagram throwback to announce that she would be reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil for the television reboot of Cruel Intentions, the actress shared yet another photo flashback—this one of the entire cast at the movie's kickoff dinner in 1998. The post even revealed a little known fact: The cult classic was originally called Cruel Inventions. Yes. with a V.
"#throwbackthursday ok one last one because I was feeling nostalgic - and yes #CruelInventions was the original title," she wrote along with the post. "This pic was 1998 at our kick off dinner #cruelintentions #Crueltv #kathrynmerteuil"
The highly-anticipated television reboot will take place 15 years after the beloved movie left off. Gellar is now battling for control of the family business and attempting to corrupt 16-year-old Bash Casey, the son of Annette Hargrove (originally played by Witherspoon) and Merteuil's late stepbrother Sebastian Valmont (who was played by Phillippe).
