Don’t expect to be seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s kids on a stage anytime soon. The 39-year-old actress told People that she’s not pressuring her children, 7-year-old Charlotte and 4-year-old Rocky, to go into acting—not that they’re showing an interest.

“They can decide what they want to do for themselves. I’ll never push them,” she said. “But, in the meantime, they have to stick to schooling. My kids have too much stage fright anyway.”

Still, Gellar acknowledges that choosing a career will be different for her son and daughter than it was for her. “It’s different because I wasn’t the child of someone that was in the public eye, and so unfortunately I think the rules are different,” she said. “I think there’s a very different pressure for ‘the children of.’”

Luckily, her little ones have a strong foundation to lean on: Their parents, Gellar and Prinze Jr., have been married for 14 years and counting. So what’s their secret? Putting in the time and effort.

“Anyone that tells you that relationships aren’t work isn’t in a real one—and that goes for married couples, friends, family,” she said. “It takes work.”
