Who doesn’t love a good bromance? We certainly do, and there’s plenty of guy-bonding on Season 2 of The Royals to keep us satisfied. That’s because Prince Liam (William Moseley) and his new bodyguard BFF Jasper (Tom Austen) have teamed up to get to the bottom of the recent murders in the monarchy. Until now, “They didn’t really have anything to do with each other,” Austen recently told InStyle when we chatted with him and his co-stars, Moseley and Alexandra Park, who plays Princess Eleanor on the E! drama. “I can’t remember really having any scenes [with William] last year.”
But this year, the two develop what Austen described as an “intense bromance.” Moseley agreed. “We had a lot [of scenes together] this year,” he said. “We had a Batman and Robin thing.” Part of that is thanks to the fact that Austen’s character has proven himself to be more good than evil, as we were first led to believe last season.
“The thing about Jasper last year was that he was never really the villain, and he was never really the good guy,” said Austen. “I think he probably spent a little more time in the villain territory then, and I think this season he definitely starts off more on the good guy side of things.”
Even so, we’re not completely buying the fact that he’s not up to something—and neither is Austen. “That villainous kind of thing is never very far away,” he said. “I think he proved himself to be [something other than] what he said he was, and it happens all over again!”
In case you forgot, Jasper started off Season 1 by pretending to be British, even though he was really an American. Eleanor found out when Jasper's accent slipped, and Austen—a Brit IRL—has been speaking with an American accent on the show ever since. This season, get ready to witness another cast member try to sound like he's from the States: Liam. Said Moseley, “We actually might see him do an American accent at one point, and it’s brilliant.” We bet it is.
