Rihanna set the bar high as soon as she stepped onstage to open the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards show with a medley of her greatest hits with her hair in a slick, high pony and classic poppy red lip. Although she continued to serve a lineup of epic beauty looks only like RiRi can throughout the night, the fresh twist on Old Hollywood glamour courtesy of the moody deep brown lip she wore for her last performance of the night and to accept the Video Vangaurd Award made a major case for ditching our red bullets for good.
To ensure Rihanna’s skin shone bright like a diamond for her final performance of the night, celebrity makeup artist Mylah Morales prepped the singer’s complexion with Chanel Sublimage La Crème Ultimate Skin Regeneration Cream ($400; chanel.com) and Chanel Sublimage La Crème Yeux Ultimate Regeneration Eye Cream ($225; chanel.com) to boost the 28-year-old singer’s complexion’s radiance.
Next, Morales applied Chanel’s Ultrawear Flawless Foundation ($60; chanel.com), a lightweight formula that would hold up throughout the entire night, and Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid in Sunkissed ($48; chanel.com) on the high points for her face for even more sparkle. A trio of Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base ($50; chanel.com), Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Color SPF 15 in N40 ($58; chanel.com), and Chanel Limited Edition Sunkiss Ribbon Blush ($70; chanel.com) for a subtle contour and flush on her cheeks.
To enhance RiRi’s green eyes, Morales used a combination of Chanel Limited-Edition Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Agape ($33; chanel.com), Chanel Limited Edition Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Rouge Contraste ($36; chanel.com), and the deep bronze shade in Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Vendome ($36; chanel.com). For an extra dose of sparkle, Morales applied Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in New Moon ($36; chanel.com). A few coats of Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara in Noir ($32; chanel.com) gave Rihanna her longest lashes yet.
As for the aforementioned dark lip: Morales painted Chanel Limited Edition Rouge Allure Velvet Intense Long-Wear Lip Colour in Rouge Audace ($37; chanel.com) on Rihanna’s lips. To make even more of a statement, Rihanna wanted the lip color to go deeper so Morales mixed it with Chanel Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil in Noir ($30; chanel.com), and set it with a dusting of translucent powder to make it even more matte.
