There are several reasons Rihanna took home the 2014 CFDA Fashion Icon Award, but her design chops are a recent addition to her prolific resume. The Bad Gal has once again returned to Dior—she previously served as a campaign star for the brand— for a fabulous collaboration, this time as the creative talent and designer behind a new set of sunglasses appropriately called “Rihanna.”
Set to be sold exclusively at Dior stores in June, the futuristic shades, which retail for $840, will be available in silver, pink, blue, green, and red, and a gold-plated, 24-karat version will be up for grabs for $1,950, WWD reports. “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and then I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together,” Rihanna said in a statement, according to WWD. “The process was pretty seamless. I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials. I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there.”
That know-how came thanks to a little inspiration from Star Trek’s Geordi La Forge, who Rihanna credited for her ideas. Earlier this week, the Anti singer demonstrated how to style the shades while out in New York. Her philosophy? Wear them with a lace-up Fenty Puma frock. Get it, Riri.
