Reese Witherspoon is a constant vision to look forward to at red carpet events but, what with her recent tough roles in Wild and Hot Pursuit, these days her preparation process involves fewer manis and pedis and more getting physical with co-star Sofia Vergara.
At last night's Academy Awards Luncheon in Beverly Hills, she revealed to reporters: "Well, I just left New Orleans where I was shooting [Hot Pursuit] with Sofia, so I have literally like rug burn on my knees. I have bruises up and down my legs from fighting with Sofia in this fight sequence, so that's basically how I prepared. Wrestling with Sofia Vergara."
"It actually is really good for your skin [to] get your muscles going," Witherspoon said. "She's very tough. She's a tough girl."
Wrestling with Vergara isn't the only thing that has pushed Witherspoon's body to the limits lately—she said of her Oscar-nominated role as Cheryl Strayed in Wild: "I've never been so challenged before physically, emotionally by a story."
And comparing the role to her previous Oscar winning portrayal of June Carter in 2006's Walk The Line, she explained: "I'm older now, I feel like I really fought for this movie to get made and it was hard. It was a hard process, but it's so rewarding.
"All those days hiking up mountains and crossing freezing rivers carrying equipment feels very hard-won but so rewarding. And to see the response to that, my fans have been having to the film and Strayed's fans has been the most rewarding in my career. I get more emails, more letters about this film than any other movie I've ever made."
