In between the big boys like the Golden Globes and the Oscars, a plethora of important awards show keeps the red carpet busy. And this weekend, it was the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where Rachel McAdams was the Spotlight—pun intended.
The actress, who has trotted out a series of Elie Saab winners including an oxblood gown at the Critics' Choice Awards, worked with designer Jonathan Simkhai for this white hot dress with kick-flare hem. The design's latticework was the real winner though, making an otherwise simple cut truly standout. Paired with blond waves and a classic red lip, McAdams truly wowed.
Of course, it wasn't only about red carpet fashion, there was also plenty of awards season gossip as the race for the little golden men narrows. Johnny Depp stoked the fire when he said he was less than kind to a young Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
According to Variety, Depp said: “I respect Leo a lot. He worked really hard on that film, researching and showing up ready to work — and I tortured him. I really did. He was always talking about these video games. ‘No, I will not give you a drag from my cigarette while you hide from your mother again, Leo,’ [I would say].”
Looks like DiCaprio is getting the last laugh. The actor is the favorite for the Academy Awards best actor race.
