The Duke of Cambridge made it back just in time, People reports, as he was called to pilot his helicopter for a medical emergency, returning just 20 minutes before his grandparents’ arrival at the base. So what was the reason for the royal visit? The Queen flew to Cambridge to open the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity’s new operating base, the Egerton-Smith Centre.
The proud grandson took the opportunity to show the Queen around the facility and give her a look at one of the helicopters that the charity runs. Dressed in a pink tweed coat and matching hat, the queen of monochrome looked perfectly poised for the momentous occasion.
The monarch then headed off to London for an audience with the outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron and later, his successor, Theresa May.
Talk about one action-packed day for the 90-year-old queen.
