Prince William joked that toddler Prince George will be bouncing around like a rabbit this Christmas.

But hopefully he was on his best behavior at the Queen's Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace today.

George, 2, and his 7-month-old sister Princess Charlotte were taken for the festive fun as Queen Elizabeth hosted her annual family party.

Princess Kate arrived with son George in the back of a Range Rover, with brother in law Prince Harry in the front at 12:30 p.m. U.K. time. Princess Charlotte also attended the event.

Prince William, however, was a no-show. He had a "personal, private event" that kept him from attending, People has learned.

Other guests included Prince William's cousin Zara Tindall, her husband Mike and their daughter Mia and Peter Phillips' wife Autumn Phillips.

Inside, the children were presented to the Queen and little gifts are laid out on chairs along a corridor. They likely need some distractions to keep them entertained–and out of their parents' hair–during lunch. Last year, George clutched a book called Dig, Dig, Digging as he sat alongside nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo.

Today's event is the prelude to the holidays, which the Queen, 89, and the rest of the royal family will celebrate at Sandringham House in Norfolk. On Christmas Day, there will be a smaller gathering for lunch following the morning church service.
