The new movie The Huntsman: Winter's War transports viewers to a fantastical, frozen fairy tale world, which meant—as its star Emily Blunt pointed out on Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live!—the filming process required a lot of green screens and extravagant costumes.
During filming Blunt had the unique challenge of having to act out riding a fictional "wolf bear" as her character, Queen Freya. "It's supposed to be this kind of fantastical creature that the director created for me and ... it looks like a wolf polar bear. It's a large lumbering thing I'm supposed to look regal on," she said. "And I was like, 'Can you give me like a horse or something? Like a beautiful white stallion?'"
Unfortunately, the wolf bear was there to stay and to create the scene Blunt had to sit side-saddle on a large green screen mound on top of a cart driven by a man in head-to-toe green material. The pregnant actress demonstrated the weird slow-mo movements she had to do. Blunt remembered watching co-star Jessica Chastain, who had to stop herself from laughing at Blunt's weird, awkward motions. "She knew if she made me laugh the whole shot would be ruined," Blunt said.
Despite the challenge, one person became a big fan of Blunt's character on the set: Blunt's co-star Charlize Theron's 4-year-old son, Jackson. Queen Freya bore a striking resemblance to Elsa from Frozen—both are ice queens who wear blue gowns and their hair in long white-blonde braids—and Jackson really believed she was the Disney character. However, he got very upset one day when he saw Blunt still with the white hair, but in her sweatpants. "He looked at me and he goes, 'Put on your dress! Put it on now.'"
