Olivia Palermo just took your Instagram beauty inspo to the front row at Dior's Paris Fashion Week show. Although unconventional lip colors are usually reserved as like fodder on every social media platform, the star demonstrated just how bold and wearable a navy blue shade can look IRL. "After a summer of dark, vampy lip tones, I wanted to create a twist to the statement lip without feeling contrived," says Palermo's makeup artist Daniel Martin. "I paired a navy lipstick with barely-there makeup, which adds depth and mystique to a sophisticated look—hence, a 'navy is the new red' effect."

After creating an even canvas and subtle contour, Martin picked up the Rouge Dior Lipstick in Visionary Matte ($35; sephora.com), a rich, inky blue. When working with a color this intense, we recommend applying the product with a lip brush, as you'll be able to create a clean, crisp shape. Then, use a concealer brush to clean up around the edges. Follow in Palermo's lead by keeping the rest of the face pretty minimal—save for some sparkle on the eyes. Martin finished the effect by applying the Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Mirror ($31; sephora.com) all over the star's lids. The pale gold held just enough warmth to prevent a washed-out appearance, but remains close enough to the color family for the cool navy, so there isn't too much contrast. Now that's a look worthy of a double-tap.
