As we usher in September and mournfully say goodbye to summer, Starbucks is making the transition a little easier with the addition of one hot new fall drink. The coffee giant just announced the launch of the new Chile Mocha, which will bring the heat to its line of sweet and savory fall drinks.
The drink is inspired by flavors like mole, horchata, and the Mexican drink, champurrado. The finished product is made with espresso and steamed milk infused with cocoa and cinnamon powder, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of spicy topping, including ancho and cayenne chile pepper, cinnamon, paprika, sugar, and sea salt.
“We found that the ancho chile and cayenne perfectly complemented chocolate,” said Starbucks senior product developer Michelle Sundquist. “It has a sweet touch to it, with an approachable amount of heat.”
If you’re not ready to try out this spicy new drink, have no fear, because the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte is returning once again. The fall fave is made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, clove, and nutmeg for an irresistibly autumnal flavor.
The full line of Starbucks fall beverages, including the Chile Mocha, will be available on Sept. 6, but cool-weather enthusiasts can get their hands on a PSL today with an early access code from @TheRealPSL or simply by stopping by a Starbucks store.
