Changes, they are a comin’ on The Mindy Project. With Mindy’s fellowship coming to an end at Stanford, she must decide whether or not to start a fertility clinic in San Francisco or return to New York City and continue practicing with Schulman and Associates. No easy decision!
Before leaving California for a quick trip to discuss this with Danny, costume designer Salvador Perez dressed Mindy in a bright pink look, similar to previous collegiate-chic outfits she’s worn before. “I was still playing in that Elle Woods world,” he says of the custom-made tweed he paired with a pink dinosaur sweater from Moschino Cheap & Chic and her now signature matching Chanel bag (below). “I’ve lost count on how many we have,” reveals Perez. “The fact that we can match them to so many outfits makes me happy.”
For her return to New York City, Perez went for a darker palette, as seen in the outfit below. “I wanted to contrast her life in New York and her life in California,” Perez says of his decision to dress her in a printed Peter Pilotto look and an embellished Diane von Furstenberg coat. “It’s such a lavish ensemble. The fact that she’s wearing a crystalized coat in the middle of the day was fabulous.”
He maintained this more sophisticated look later on in the episode, dressing her in a BCBG dress (lead). However the focal point of the look was the BCBG belt, which is how he incorporated Peter’s western-themed going away party into her outfit.
And while the outfits were our as fabulous as always, the real bombshell came at the end of the episode when Mindy finds out she's pregnant! Her maternity looks are going to be so great.
We’ll be chatting with Perez every week about our favorite looks from The Mindy Project, so be sure to check back in next week!
