New York Fashion Week, the twice-yearly showcase of the most innovative, trend-setting pieces that revered designers like Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors work hard to debut, is always a highly anticipated event. And while the arrival of new clothing is enough to generate excitment, it’s the buzzing energy of the front row that continuously makes headlines.
Thanks to photographer Miles Ladin’s new exhibition inside Connecticut College's Cummings Art Center galleries, The Spectacle of Fashion, you don’t have to be an A-list star to get a glimpse of the action that occurs past the velvet rope. Now on display through Dec. 11, Ladin, an alumnus of the college, has pieced together an unrivaled collection of photographers that glamorously chronicle the scene inside NYFW and its surrounding, guest list-only parties. The former New York Times and WWD photographer curated a selection of images from the past 20 years that showcase some of the celebrities who regularly attend the high-profile events.
Images like the above shot of Sarah Jessica Parker with Andy Cohen are paired next to #TBT-worthy shots of Paris and Nicky Hilton (below) in their prime party-going days. The exhibition’s photographs run the gamut from up-close, profile-like images at events like Fashion Rocks and the Fashion Group International Gala to others that showcase just how chaotic the crowds outside the shows can be. The exhibition also premieres Supermodels at the End of Time, Ladin’s upcoming new book of photographs of supermodels from the ‘90s.
