If you’re looking for your next sci-fi fix, The Messengers has just what you need. The CW’s latest supernatural saga premieres tonight and follows the story of five strangers who are killed when a mysterious object crashes to Earth. But here’s where things get really interesting: The group soon re-awakens, armed with superpowers that can help prevent an approaching apocalypse. Star Lexi Atkins recently stopped by InStyle’s New York offices and revealed what happens when the characters suddenly come back to life with crazy-cool skills. “They have this new revelation about how to save the world,” Atkins told us.

Although her character, Alice, has yet to feel any effects from the mysterious event and its subsequent shock waves, 22-year-old Atkins still plays an important part. “I’m one of the Messengers’ love interests,” she said. Her character may end up falling for high school student Peter, played by 19-year-old Joel Courtney—but don’t expect to see any real-life romance between the pair anytime soon.

“Joel is adorable and so sweet,” Atkins told us. The only problem? When it comes to filming make-out scenes with Courtney, she’s suddenly super aware of their slight age difference. “I’m like, ‘You’re my little sister’s age!’” said the actress, whose other recent onscreen love interest was Ryan Guzman in The Boy Next Door. (Lucky girl, we know.)

Kissing scenes aside, Atkins is excited to see where her character’s story goes. But even though Alice is still alive and well, that doesn’t mean things will stay that way—and Atkins is totally okay with that. “I’m hoping that she dies in these next few episodes, just so she can come back with a superpower,” she said. “I think this is actually the first time that I’ve really wanted one of my characters to die!”

So, if Atkins’s character is killed offonly to be reborn again, of course—what would her superpower to be? “I’d want to be able to read minds,” she said. “I think that would be so cool.” To see the supernatural drama unfold, check out the trailer below and tune into The Messengers tonight at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
