Here's a fun fact: Kiernan Shipka was only six years old when she began her journey as Sally Draper on Mad Men. The now 15-year-old actress has practically grown up before our eyes, and lucky for her she's had a lot of strong female characters on set to look up to.
"It's really amazing how Mad Men portrays the female characters because they're real and they're so honest and just portrayed as these flawed, emotional human beings," Shipka told InStyle at AMC's Black and Red Ball to celebrate the last seven episodes of the show on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. "There's been some really amazing female directors and writers. As a young girl growing up on that set, that's super important to me and just kind of a great environment in that regard."
"I really think the woman on the show are remarkable as are all the characters," the actress, who wore head-to-toe Miu Miu paired with Norman Silverman jewels, added. "I think each person is kind of their own individual person. Peggy is so clever and amazing. And someone like Joan is just so cool. And someone like Sally has really evolved over time. And she's grown and she's changed."
