It was only a matter of time before street style icon and queen of jeans, Alexa Chung, delved into a denim endeavor and created her own line. We caught up with the "It Girl" last night at the Los Angeles launch of her latest design collaboration, Alexa Chung for AG Jeans, where she dished to us about all things street style.
"I think the reason street style is interesting is because it’s an opportunity to see how people interpret things," Chung revealed. "I think we're so used to seeing a glossy image of a well put together fashion shoot, but there is nothing more refreshing than seeing someone else's take on style and also seeing someone celebrating their own individuality."
So, what's the sartorial master's advice on how to create the perfect look? "Wear your individuality. Don't be afraid to mix things up." Chung took her own advice last night at the intimate launch party, and mixed things up with a denim dress from her Alexa Chung for AG collection (The Julie, $268; agjeans.com) worn with a leopard-print fur coat from Topshop.
The 21-piece denim capsule collection, which ranges from overalls to dresses to miniskirts, was inspired by Chung’s search for her dream denim pieces she was never able to find in stores. "I just really wanted these particular pieces and they didn't exist. Whenever I saw something like them in a shop, it just wasn't quite right," Chung explained. "The dresses and skirts and most of the clothes in this collection were made because I just wanted them in my closet and couldn't find them anywhere. This collection a triumph in my book—it's exactly what I dreamed of!"
