Could Lena Dunham be any cooler?
The star is encouraging women to hit the gym, but not for the reason that first comes to mind. The actress, who has been taking workout classes with fitness expert Tracy Anderson at her Tribeca studio in New York City, ’grammed a gym selfie with an important message. She offered a reminder that working out is not just about fitting into those skinny jeans: It has a much broader influence and can have as positive an impact on your mental well-being as your physical health.
"Promised myself I would not let exercise be the first thing to go by the wayside when I got busy with Girls Season 5 and here is why: it has helped with my anxiety in ways I never dreamed possible," Dunham captioned the shot of her in a sports bra and workout leggings in the T.A. locker room.
"To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it's mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen. I'm glad I did. It ain't about the ass, it's about the brain. Thank you @tracyandersonmethod for showing me the light (and @bandierfit is where I bought my Florida mom inspired workout look.) #notsponsored #stillmedicated."
Considering Tracy Anderson's push for a positive body image (which she talks in depth about in her gorgeous cover story for the May issue of Health magazine), it sounds like Dunham has found her match. You go girl!
