Thanks to Vivian Loh, a 20-year-old artist and Maryland Institute College of Art illustration major, Beyonce now has a full alphabet created in her honor and it's kind of amazing. What started as a simple class assignment, turned into a homage to Beyonce and soon, an internet sensation. "I never would have guessed my illustrations would receive this kind of attention" Loh says to InStyle.com exclusively. "I'm happy that there are a lot of other people out there enjoying the series!"
Designed by hand, each letter captures the "Drunk in Love" singer's most iconic moments during her rule as Queen Bey—from her "Diva" and "Countdown" music videos, the album cover art for Crazy in Love, moments from The Mrs. Carter Show world tour, to her fierce look from the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show—a process that took three weeks to complete. "My research consisted of watching almost every music video Beyonce ever created, even down to her days as a Destiny's Child member. It was the funniest research I've ever had to do," Loh admits. "It was also important to me that the poses I put my Beyonce's in were realistic, not back-breaking contortionist poses. Through setting this standard, a more interesting challenge existed."
As for Loh's favorite letter out of the full 26? "Ironically 'B' is my favorite letter. It was the letter that came most natural to me drawing-wise and if you couldn't guess, it's in reference to her song, 'Single Ladies.' Her dance moves in that video are legendary." Despite all the media frenzy over Loh's alphabet print, there is just one last thing Loh hopes for: "My last wish is that Beyonce herself will see it and appreciate it." We hope so too!
