Orange Is the New Black's Laverne Cox has some major news. Deadline confirmed that the Emmy-winning actress will star in Fox's upcoming remake of campy cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the story of a young couple who stumble upon the outlandish household of "a sweet transvestite," who also happens to be mad alien scientist.
According to Deadline, Cox will play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a role played by Tim Curry in the 1975 film and on stage. The two-hour taped TV event will be a reimagining of the 20th Century Fox movie-musical, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary and holds the record for having the longest theatrical release of any film in history.
"I am so excited to be a part of #RockHorror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt," Cox tweeted after the news broke. Her second hashtag "#DontDreamItBeIt," a Dr. Frank-N-Furter quote, is a fitting reference for the ground-breaking transgender star.
The TV reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is set to premiere on Fox in fall 2016.
