Come November this year, you'll be able to get your hands on some very couture dolls. Sassy fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, whose eponymous label has made him a household name, has partnered with the Madame Alexander Doll Company on a collection of 18-inch play dolls and two limited-edition dolls, all of which are outfitted in clothes inspired by Mizrahi's past collections.
According to Mizrahi, the decision to collaborate with Madame Alexander was a very organic one. He first learned to sew by making another type of childhood toy: puppets on his dad's sewing machine. "That's what my first creative endeavors were. Puppets of all kinds," Mizrahi old InStyle.com. "I know a lot about making miniature clothes and things, and for me this is a very natural association."current Mikado dresses. However, Mizrahi's favorite is "Alex," (above) who is dressed in a design inspired by one of his early '90s collections. At 15-inches tall, she wears a taffeta ball skirt in "Issac pink," ribbed white tank top, orange and pink striped puffer jacket, faux fur hat and black motorcycle boots. "That's my favorite just because of the hat and the whole idea of the perfection, the way they captured the exact spirit of the outfit," Mizrahi said.
And it seems that it might not just be a one-off endeavor. The designer says he'd love to do another collection with Madame Alexander. One thing we might expect to see on the next set of dolls? Crop tops! Mizrahi says the midriff-baring trend (see how to wear it here) has caught his attention. "At first I was kind of scared, but now I'm into the whole midriff thing," he said. "It's kind of wonderful." As for staying chic in the summer heat, Mizrahi, who describes himself as more of a winter person, has two words of fashion advice: Pare down. For him, the summer months are all about simple pieces in dark, easy-to-wear colors.
The Isaac Mizrahi Madame Alexander Doll Company dolls, which range in price from $70 to $1,000, will be available this November at MadameAlexander.com. Until then, see stars wearing Isaac Mizrahi in our gallery!
