Little Monsters, the moment has arrived! Lady Gaga just released her first new solo track in three years—and the catchy rock-dance tune was well worth the wait.
On Thursday, the "Bad Romance" hitmaker dropped her highly anticipated brand-new single "Perfect Illusion," which will be part of a fifth studio album.
"Tryin' to get control, pressure's takin' its toll. Stuck in the middle zone, I just want you alone," the 30-year-old begins the dance-rock tune. She goes on to belt out the chorus (in perhaps a nod to her split from former fiancé Taylor Kinney): "It wasn't love, it wasn't love. It was a perfect illusion. Mistaken love."
While the song seems to center around the idea of mistaking a crush for love, Gaga confirmed that the lyrics are about much more in an interview at the iHeartRadio Music Summit last month. "The song is about modern ecstasy. ... We found our sweet, simple, ragey way of saying it," she said. "I get this sick adrenaline rush every time I hear it."
Her last solo album was 2013′s Artpop and the following year she collaborated with Tony Bennett on the album Cheek to Cheek.
