Ever wonder why that tawny beige nail lacquer that looks great on your BFF doesn't exactly do your complexion any favors? Not every nude shade is guaranteed to flatter all skin tones the same way, and Kerry Washington certainly took that idea to heart when it came to creating her own nail polish range for OPI. "For me, growing up, when people were saying 'nude,' they weren't talking about my naked skin tone," the star tells WWD. "I made sure that in my collection, we had nudes that also represent me." A woman after our own hearts, indeed. Washington's lineup will include 15 colors total, and they're not limited to the neutral end of the spectrum. Washington had a very personal approach to the creation process, naming the deep plum "Kerry Blossom" shade after herself, and the gray-toned lacquer "Liv in the Gray" as a nod to on-screen Scandal persona.

Though we have yet to see the entire lineup, the caramel IsabelletWay shade just might be our favorite based solely on the sweet backstory of Washington naming it after her daughter. "I thought long and hard about having my daughter involved, but once I came up with the name, I couldn't get it out of my head," she adds. Kerry Washington for OPI arrives in stores August 4 priced at $10 per bottle, so we have a pretty solid wait, but the star did tease a photo of one color on her Instagram—despite that it's a black and white shot and leaves much to the imagination. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more sneak peeks at her line as the launch date approaches!
