Keira Knightley sure knows how to make the most of her wedding dress. The 28-year-old actress re-wore her short ruched Chanel Haute Couture nuptials frock for a total of three times: first for a pre-BAFTA party back in 2008, then during her wedding this past May, and at last night's SeriousFun Children's Network Gala in London, accessorizing it differently each time. She first she paired the strapless dress with black tights, then topped it off with a Chanel jacket at her wedding, and recently wore it with a sheer long-sleeve shirt with embroidery along the wrists and neckline. We loved Knightley's bold red carpet move so much that we tapped into the fashionable mind of InStyle's Dana Avidan-Cohn (Senior Market Editor/Digital Correspondent) for three tips on how to re-wear a special evening dress. Scroll below to learn some shocking insider tips just in time for the holidays.
Add Leather Accents
Incorporate a few edgy accessories into your look, like a leather jacket or boots, to make the dress look less formal than your traditional evening wear.
Layer With Separates
If the dress has a fitted bodice, wear a fitted sweater over it in monochromatic colors to compliment the hue of the dress. If it's a cream dress, pair it with a cream fuzzy sweater or if it is a brocade-printed frock, match it with a burgundy sweater to give it the look of being separates.
Bring it to a Tailor
Have the gown hemmed into a cocktail dress or even get the neckline hemmed (if it's a straight neckline, change it into a sweetheart silhouette) or simply have the straps removed. Also, try changing one aspect of the dress, for instance if it has a belt and replace it with a personal one!
