Last month the pop star surprised fans by releasing the new Olympics anthem, “Rise,” and revealed a first look at the intense music video a week later. In the first clip, Perry drags a parachute across a desert landscape, landing in the water and rising to the surface.
In a new teaser that the star posted on Monday, we get an even closer look at the stunning visuals. Through wind and rain, Perry fights with the parachute, even flying out of control and into the air, and eventually rises through the air. The singer also announced the release date for the video: one day before Friday's opening ceremony at Rio de Janeiro's Maracanã Stadium. “AUGUST 4TH, we #RISE,” she wrote in the clip's caption.
“Now more than ever there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together, we can rise above the fear in our country around the world, and I can’t think of a better example coming up than the Olympic athletes as they gather together in Rio with their strength and fearlessness to remind us how we all can come together with the resolve to be the best that we can be,” Perry said when she first unveiled the new anthem.
Listen to the song in the above clip (which features NBC's promotional footage), and tune in on Aug. 4 for Perry's full music video.
