While Katharine McPhee is currently in the midst of filming the second season of Smash and recording her new record, due out next spring, she took a break from her busy schedule to tell us what to expect for round two of the show at last night’s Samsung's Galaxy SIII launch party featuring M83 in New York City. First up: “There’s a possible new love life,” she confessed. (Good! Peace out, Cheating Dev!) Scroll down to find out five things to expect from the next season of Smash—including her thoughts on her guest stars (hello, Jennifer Hudson), her Marilyn Monroe wig (blondes do have more fun), and more from the Bombshell set—which returns to NBC in 2013.
1. Karen Has a New Love Interest, and It's Not Dev!
"Dev cheated on her and she says goodbye to him," McPhee revealed to InStyle.com. "She really has a crush on this character Jimmy, but you don’t really know what’s going to happen with them. And there might be another possible love angle that might happen."
2. Guest Star Jennifer Hudson Gave the Cast Wrap Gifts.
Awww! Not only is Jennifer Hudson a great singer and performer, but she's gracious, too. "She already shot her three episodes. She’s super sweet and professional," McPhee told InStyle.com. "It's sort of hard to get to know people, because the show moves so quickly. But she was super friendly with people and was very nice. She gave everyone wrap gifts!"
3. The Best Part About Playing Marilyn Monroe Is the Hair.
"I love when the wig goes on," McPhee told InStyle.com. "We just did a Marilyn number a couple weeks ago, and it was a new wig, and I just felt like it looked so beautiful. I went through a blonde phase, so for me, being blonde again for a couple hours—I just love it."
4. Karen Steals from Katharine's Personal Closet (Sometimes!)
"Sometimes it happens," McPhee told us. "I try to get away with it. I try to sneak my own things in when I can." McPhee recently tweeted about her Theyskens' Theory jacket (one of her favorite brands), which she wore on set.
5. And Katharine Gets Inspired from Karen's Closet, Too.
"The wardrobe team pulls amazing things," she told InStyle.com. "And they brought in [a pair of Miu Miu shoes], and I had a heart attack. I got so many compliments on those shoes on set -- and you know when you’re getting compliments on them, you’re doing something right."
