There's no question that Kate Winslet has won her fair share of Golden Globe Awards, and she added to her collection last night when she nabbed the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for her role in Steve Jobs. After looking genuinely shocked as she got up to accept her award in a stunning deep blue Ralph Lauren gown, social media was aflutter talking about Winslet's sweet reaction.
"Really, I’m so shocked right now. Honestly, I’m so shocked," she told reporters after her big win about never really getting used to winning. "I’m still standing here, I keep thinking that maybe this is not happening. I honestly, truthfully, did not expect this at all, and I’m so delighted. I’m so thrilled. I really can’t believe it. It’s just, it’s incredible. It’s such an honor, really it is."
But the real reason she was so blown away was because of her stiff competition. "I just think that women are doing such great work. I’ve been doing this for 23 years now. Cate Blanchett’s been doing it for probably longer, actually. Look at Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda, I mean, these wonderful women that we’re so fortunate to stand along side and to learn from still. It’s just incredibly exciting to have that array of skill for all of us to be inspired by. To be a part of that is just wonderful. It really feels fantastic and there’s a real sense girl power, I think, in this year in terms of performance. It’s just incredible to be a part of that."
Winslet went on to discuss the multitude of opportunities she's had in her career: "I’ve been very blessed. I’ve had a nice run of some incredible parts and great challenges come my way," she said. "To be honest, I’m doing a job that I love and that I’ve loved all of my life. So to still be doing it and to be in a position like this one, I could not be more grateful, honestly."
