Kate Hudson has modeled her fair share of little black dresses for Ann Taylor ad campaigns, and now she's designed her own crop for the label. The actress came out to celebrate the launch of the Kate Hudson LBD Collection for Ann Taylor Tuesday night at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood and was more than excited about designing her second collection for the brand (she created an all-white collection for them last summer). "I really do like working with Ann Taylor because you're really designing with every woman in mind. You really want every woman to appreciate it and to feel comfortable in it, which I think is really important," Hudson tells InStyle.
The actress looked incredible in one of her own designs from the collection, the Best Actress dress—a modern and sexy gown with an asymmetrical neckline. "At first we had eight different dresses, and we had to narrow it down," Hudson explained. "We said, 'How are we going to do this?' I said, 'Well, every girl needs a little black dress, but not one black dress is going to fit every mood. So let's just do different moods.'" In the end, five distinct black dresses were chosen for the collection, but it took some creative editing to get down to that point.
Which styles made it in besides the Best Actress? The Romantic, a soft silhouette with a bit of flounce that represents Hudson's free spirit; Camera Ready, a super-sexy style with detailed cutouts; London Love, a sleek dress with sheer inserts and slight fishtail hem; and Late Nighter, modeled after Hudson's rock 'n' roll edge. "I wanted the collection to be something for every woman," she says. "Dresses that a woman would feel comfortable in, no matter what body shape or size. I didn't want to exclude anyone."
