Kate Hudson is so willing to take a risk she turned to hairstylist David Babaii and transformed her gorgeous blonde locks into a sporty lob just hours before hitting the red carpet at the 2016 Golden Globes. The results were obviously worthy of using Snapchat’s replay button (she captured the entire process on the social media tool, as well as on Instagram), but we did wonder what the inspiration behind her new look was. Thankfully, we scored an answer.

“In May I start shooting the Richard Pryor project. I’m supposed to have short hair and I wanted to get used to it. So I thought, ‘I’m just going to chop it off so that I have a couple months to sort of get used to it and see how I feel,'” she told InStyle. “Then we’ll see what else is going to happen.”

So does Hudson miss her previous way-below-the-shoulders ‘do? “Not now, no. No. No. Not at all,” she admitted. Don’t think that doesn’t mean her short style is a permanent fixture. As for whether or not she’ll return to long locks, “Oh yeah, sure,” she said. “Please, I’ve had long hair for, you know... I’ll just keep everybody guessing.”
