Thursday was quite an explosive day for 15-year-old talent Kaia Gerber.
Just hours after news broke that she scored her first beauty campaign as the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty, the teenager stepped into New York City’s Park Hyatt hotel for the Daily Front Row’s 4th annual Fashion Media Awards, where all eyes were on her. Dressed in, naturally, a black sleeveless Marc Jacobs design, the brunette hit the red carpet with dad Rande Gerber, mom Cindy Crawford, and older brother Presley Gerber.
So what was the fuss all about? Gerber received the Female Model of the Year award and took the stage after Jacobs himself introduced her. “Kaia was absolutely fantastic in every way. Her beauty, charm, her incredible personality and her professional work ethic proved that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” he said of the model, explaining how they worked together on the campaign.
“It blows my mind how last week I was sitting in biology learning how to safely use a Bunsen burner and tonight, I’m with all of the amazing people who I’ve looked up to for so long,” she told the crowd inside of the Fiji-hosted event, which included guests like Karlie Kloss (below), Adriana Lima (second below), and Lauren Hutton, to name a few.
In addition to thanking Jacobs for the kind words, Gerber revealed the words of wisdom model mom Crawford shares with her. “A lot of people ask me what my mom has taught me about modeling. The truth is, the things she teaches me go deeper than what pose to make or what my good side is. She teaches me to be kind, punctual, if you guys know her, then you know she’s very punctual, and to stand up for myself,” she said, moving on to thank her other family members.
Following Gerber’s speech, host Alan Cumming kept the crowd laughing while presenters and honorees alike delivered moving speeches.
Looks like New York Fashion Week is off to a great start.
