Josh Duhamel has been busy filming the latest installment of the Transformers movies this summer, but the actor has another passion project hitting theaters this week: his new film, Spaceman. ”It’s a movie about this guy named Bill 'Spaceman' Lee, who was a baseball pitcher in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s,” Duhamel recently told InStyle. “He was known more for his experimental use of recreational drugs than he was a pitcher.”
Duhamel portrays the legendary Major League Baseball in the biographical film, which hits select theaters and VOD today, Aug. 19, and follows Lee’s highs and lows during his time playing the sport. “Although he was a really good pitcher, he got in trouble by the league a lot for his sort of outspoken and irreverent ways,” explained Duhamel. “And ultimately, he was blackballed.”
Spaceman’s story doesn’t end there, as the movie is about more than just Lee’s time spent on the field. “It’s really about his life after and how he was able to reinvent himself,” said Duhamel. “So it’s a cool sports-slash-stoner movie."
