John Galliano, the designer who previously headed up Givenchy, Christian Dior, and his own eponymous label, as well as some designs for Oscar de la Renta, turns 54 today. Galliano has led a successful life in the fashion industry so far, though his career has not been without scandal. The British designer was recently named creative director of Maison Martin Margiela, a surprising move on the part of both parties. "I’m less surprised that he is making a comeback than by the fact that Margiela would name a designer at all, which goes against the long-held principles of the founding designer," writes Eric Wilson, InStyle's fashion news director. "And Galliano is a flamboyant showman, almost the antithesis of Margiela."
One thing's for sure: We're excited to see the standout creations Galliano dreams up for the brand!
