The Academy Awards are tonight, which means it's been a rollicking weekend of pre-Oscars parties! In the lexicon of coveted invites, Chanel's pre-Oscar dinner is amongst the top of the list. Co-hosted by Charles Finch at the L.A. Italian eatery Madeo, Julianne Moore, Rooney Mara, and Kristen Stewart were among the chic stars who were serenaded by a live mariachi band as they walked through the entrance.
But mariachi or not, the mood was a mix of old-Hollywood and modern starlet with legends like Joan Collins and Angelica Houston and fashionable actresses Jessica Biel and Diane Kruger, both donning Chanel, mingling amonst the crowd. As for the double Cs, what makes them fall in love with Chanel every year? “I love that it’s timeless. He [Karl Lagerfeld] always surprises me and he’s always very young and very cutting edge,” quips Kruger.
Biel has fond memories of the fashion house wearing it to one of her first red carpets. “Estee [Stanley], my stylist, got a beautiful little Chanel leather jacket that I wore to a premiere the first time I was every dressed by someone other than me. I was 19, and they gifted it to me after that. And I still have it, and I still wear it. Sometimes, you know, my arms can’t barely get it in. It’s like fat guy in the little coat sometimes,” the actress says, laughing.
Oscar winner and Chanel fan Moore can’t gush enough about the line “I love how inventive it is and how classic at the same time. That’s the thing about Karl Lagerfeld. He managed to be completely modern, while always referring to so many things in fashion history.” The elegant event even attracted music star Pharrell Williams who was sporting Coco’s famous accessory—Chanel pearls of course. “I always wear pearls!" he says. "I feel like the legacy that Chanel, well, Coco created, is just like none other. It kind of intensifies everything that you see on the runway and you see in the past collections.”
Besides pearls, Chanel’s other classic item caught the eye of actress Stewart. “I’m wearing a little black jacket," she shares. "I feel so lucky to have it. They’re like a coveted item. I wanted to be casual. I wanted to wear my own shoes tonight. I didn’t want to be styled”. Oscar nominee Eddie Redmayne made it a family affair bringing his wife Hannah and parents but once dinner wrapped they were off for a very important appointment. “I still have one last fitting tonight!”
