There are many universal truths in life, and the fact that Jennifer Lopez's beauty game will always remain strong is an undisputed one. Let the gorgeous berry lip she wore at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards serve as proof. "If you saw the Giambattista Valli dress, you'll instantly get the Old Hollywood glamour—the shape, the marigold color, the cape, and the diamonds—it's perfection," says her makeup artist Mary Phillips on her inspiration. "Her skin and lip color are the hallmarks of this look. It's very elegant and gorgeous while still being modern." After creating a flawless canvas with the L'Oreal True Match Cushion Foundation ($17; lorealparisusa.com), she blended the tawny brown from the Infallible Pro Contour Palette ($13; lorealparisusa.com) along her jawline, cheekbones, temple, hairline, and both sides of the nose, then applied the highliters to the center of the forehead, center of the nose, and at the browbone. A touch of the True Match Blush in Spiced Plum ($11; lorealparisusa.com) on the apples of Lopez's cheeks created a believable flush.

Phillips went easy on the eyes, sticking to the neutral #306, #201, and #205 Eyeshadow Mono hues ($6 each; lorealparis.com), which were then topped off with a thin sweep of black liquid liner. She kept the product concentrated along the top lashes, and thickened the line ever-so-slightly at the end, taking care not to create too large of a wing as the end result could translate as costumey. After a few coats of mascara, she mixed the Nude Allude, Forbidden Kiss, and Rouge Envy shades of L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss ($10 each; lorealparisusa.com) to create that gorgeous statement lip. The darker colors were applied first to the outer areas of the lips, and Phillips worked her way inward with the lighter tones for extra dimension. Perfection is not even the word.
