Both stars are known to be among Hollywood's funniest, so it comes as no surprise that their first interaction was hilarious.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence said she that she and Stone met via text following the suggestion of mutual co-star Woody Harrelson. Emma was the first to reach out, and her message prompted a very direct response from J.Law: “I replied, ‘F**k off!’” Lawrence said, “And we’ve been really good friends ever since”—we so hope this exchange makes its way into a biopic someday.

Following Lawrence's mock-aggressive text, the two continued to chat daily for the next year: “I feel like it was our version of The Notebook—365 texts,” she said.
Despite the two actresses being close in age and often cast in similar projects, Lawrence and Stone agree that competition isn’t an issue between them (mostly).
Discussing their friendship in an email to Vanity Fair, Stone wrote: “…There was definitely a time early on when I was like ‘OH HEY MY EGO IS GOING NUTS SHE’S SO GREAT AND VIBRANT AND TALENTED I’M SCREWED I’LL NEVER WORK AGAIN GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD.’ Then I chilled the f**k out—and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front.”
Back in October, Lawrence addressed the issue succinctly: “If I wasn’t her biggest fan, I would’ve Tonya Harding’d her in the kneecaps.”
Ah, true friendship.
