It’s been less than a week since Jason Wu wed his longtime partner Gustavo Rangel in Tulum, but the designer is already back to business. On Tuesday morning, the New York Fashion Week favorite took to Instagram to announce his latest project: Grey Jason Wu. Named after his favorite color, the just-revealed portfolio is that of a more affordable sister collection to his namesake ready-to-wear line, this one ranging from $295 to $1,395, WWD reports.
Don’t think he pieced it together overnight, either. In the lead image of his first Instagram announcement, which features the sporty logo to the new line, set to drop this June with a spring 2016 collection, Wu revealed the collection has been 12 months in the making. “As the Jason Wu collection evolved over the last few years, I felt that there was room for a sister collection that very much addressed the needs of women who look for a beautiful, seasonless wardrobe that is neither too edgy or sweet,” he wrote as the caption to an image of sketches shared on Grey Jason Wu’s new social media channel. “There is a sense of relaxed sophistication with thoughtful details that is the basis for Grey Jason Wu.”

Introducing GREY Jason Wu, a new sister collection created by Jason Wu born from his desire to dress his friends, inspired by their dynamic personal style. "I often look to my friends for inspiration and I created this collection for women who look for beautifully made, well considered clothes that have a sense of whimsy and uncomplicated chic that suit their everyday lives." #GREYJasonWu #GREYLaVie
"I've always loved the idea of collaboration, and with GREY Jason Wu I have the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented people. For the first collection, I asked artist Hunt Slonem to be my first collaborator, and I've translated his famous bunnies into printed chiffon, a multi-colored jacquard, and embroidery on knitwear. Hunt's work is charming, full of life, and so clever-qualities that perfectly sum up GREY Jason Wu" #GREYJasonWu #GREYLaVie
He also explained how New York City-based artist Hunt Slonem, famous for his fascination with all things bunnies, inspired his first collection, which will include “printed chiffon,” “multi-colored jacquard,” and “embroidery on knitwear.” Other sketches find striped, off-white dressed and pleated, asymmetric skirts, along with evening-appropriate jackets and office-ready, wide-legged pants. Well done, Wu.
