The chic Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic only rolls around once a year in Los Angeles and stars like Jaime King, Nina Dobrev, Rachel Zoe, Selma Blair, Lauren Conrad and January Jones weren’t going to let it pass them by. The ladies, along with many other celebs including Scandal stars Darby Stanchfield, Bellamy Young and Scott Foley were all on hand for the sold out-event at Will Rogers State Park in Pacific Palisades, Calif., telling us they couldn’t wait to watch the polo match and sip some bubbly.
In fact, it’s becoming a bit of a Scandal cast tradition, with Young saying Foley and her onscreen husband Tony Goldwyn went last year and “had so much fun” that she had to see what it was all about. “That's why I wanted to come this year,” she told InStyle. “I was like the ladies can represent for sure.” And they did, with both her and Stanchfield, who were each other’s dates, looking lovely in Shoshanna dresses as they headed into the park.
Not everyone knew exactly what to wear to the event at first though—it’s not every day there’s a polo match in L.A.—like January Jones, who ended up taking a little inspiration from a movie classic. “I’ve never been to a polo match so the only reference I had was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. So, I went with polka dots,” she said with a laugh, describing her print Zimmerman dress, Reformation blazer and Eugenia Kim hat.
Meanwhile, Nina Dobrev who dazzled in a blue, flowy Badgley Mischka dress, floral-embellished Stuart Weitzman shoes, and a braid down the middle of her hair said it was her first time at the event, which she was drawn to because she’s an “avid rider.” She added, “They’re beautiful creatures. I have so much respect for them.”
As the event kicked off, American Horror Story star Cheyenne Jackson sang the National Anthem and the match began. Ladies in colorful summer dresses and sun hats, and gents in blazers and jeans, sat on the lawn on blankets and popped bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne, shielding themselves with bright orange signature umbrellas as they watched the players compete. Others played beanbag toss games and Jenga, and munched on grub from the popular Cousins Maine Lobster and Baby’s Badass Burgers food trucks—all in all, a terrific afternoon.
