Talk about a star-powered back-to-school fundraiser! Hugh Jackman (in Prada, pictured with wife Deborra-Lee Furness), Gayle King and model Crystal Renn (in Gabriela Cadena) helped raise over $1.2 million for programs benefiting youth in foster care at the 14th Annual New Yorkers for Children fall gala last night at midtown east's Cipriani. The organization, which works with New York City's Administration for Children's Services, helps provide foster care children with guidance, college scholarships, school supplies and more. "It's beyond nice," Jackman, co-chair of the gala board with his wife, told InStyle.com before the dinner. "Deb does a lot of work in the field of foster kids and adoption and always say brilliantly, 'If a kid doesn't have a parent, then they're all our kids.' So thank god for New Yorkers for Children, that they give us an opportunity to take care of them." And the evening, which included cocktails, a live auction, a musical performance by rapper Common and speeches by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and three award recipients (two Spirit Award scholarship winners and organization founder and president emeritus Nicholas Scoppetta, who was given a lifetime achievement award), took care of its guests. A lush, three-course meal of pumpkin scapece, Chilean sea bass and vanilla meringue cream or chocolate cake was served on candlelit tables with white dahlias, decorated by David Stark. At 10 p.m., the banquet hall emptied as guests headed to the chapel to dance to DJ Stretch Armstrong's mix of pop hits — the night may have been fading, but the difference guests made on the organization was far from it. New Yorkers for Children is a great cause, Renn told InStyle.com. "I love that they're giving the opportunity to children to basically grow who otherwise wouldn't have a chance. I myself was adopted, and I know that that chance made everything for my life happen."
