What happens when you wear the same dress five days in a row? InStyle.com Assistant Social Media Editor Jennifer Davis took on the challenge. Read on to find out what it was like and how you can pull it off, too.

I began my one-week journey with one major goal: To see if I could style the same little black dress differently enough each day so that none of my co-workers would notice. No small feat for someone who works at a fashion magazine.

To do this, I enlisted our Associate Fashion Editor Andrea Cheng as a styling confidante. With her help we came up with five different outfits using only pieces from my closet. While we may not have been successful in keeping our project a complete secret, we did come up with five different ways to wear one dress. Scroll down to see the week unfold.

Monday:

Fresh off of a red-eye from California, I wore the Rebecca Taylor dress (similar at rebeccataylor.com) as is for day one with black tights and ankle boots.

An oversize Michael Stars sweater transformed the dress the next day, making it look like two pieces instead of one. Two-tone pumps from Schutz finished off the look.

My favorite look of the week had me all buttoned up. I wore a cream silk blouse underneath the dress, which I paired with a chain necklace from BaubleBar. But the unexpected twist came from the shoes. Instead of a flats or boots, we decided to mix it up with perforated sneakers from Vince ($195 at piperlime.com).

The fourth day was a little bit rocker chic. I wore a red and black flannel shirt from Forever 21 underneath a leather jacket and lace-up suede booties.

I couldn’t finish off the week without a turtleneck tucked underneath the dress. The key here was to choose a thin sweater to make sure it didn’t look too bulky. Accessorized with a chunky necklace and leopard flats from Tory Burch ($265 at bloomingdales.com), the look was complete!

So after the experiment, I concluded it is indeed possible to transform one closet staple over and over again, just by swapping in a few key accessories!
