Holiday season is in full-swing, meaning you likely have a few parties already penciled into your calendar this week, with a few of them taking place right after you clock out of work for the day. Your party dress is at the ready for a quick change, and as for a beauty look that's equal parts glamorous and easy to master, never fear—Kerry Washington's makeup artist Carola Gonzalez offers her sage advice. "I like the combination of a silver eye with a red lip," she tells InStyle. "It flatters everyone, it's easy to do, and although it's simple, the look is really festive. You can apply it in just a few minutes, so it's perfect if you're going somewhere after work." The pro advises going with Neutrogena's Nourishing Long-Wear Shadow + Primer palette in Smoky Steel ($9; drugstore.com), and to amp up the intensity, try using a damp shadow brush. "This makes the color more intense and metallic," Gonzalez adds.

Use the look Washington, who is a Neutrogena global brand ambassador, showcases in the photo above as your inspiration. Apply the shadow directly to your lid, add a thin stripe of liner, then finish with a few coats of mascara. Swipe on your red lipstick of choice, and you're good to go. Gonzalez recommends going to the store to try out a few until you find one that perfectly flatters your undertones (it can be tricky, so we put together a guide) or picking up a sheer one-size-fits-all color like Neutrogena's MoistureSmooth Color Sticks in either Cherry Pink or Wine Berry ($9 each; ulta.com). "Try not to go too intense in both areas, as you need a balance between the two," Gonzalez adds. "You'll know when you find that perfect red lipstick, though. It'll just feel right." Not unlike that flattering party dress tucked away into your desk, of course.
