To celebrate the premiere of her powerful new film, Eye in the Sky, Helen Mirren turned to a powerful, menswear-inspired getup Wednesday night at New York's AMC Loews Lincoln Square theatre. Mirren isn't a novice at experimental suiting, often turning to precise tailoring mixed with a jolt of eccentricity for her appearances, but last night's look was a chic choice that served as a sharp contrast to the bold, ethereal, and fit-for-a-Dame gowns she regularly rocks on the red carpet.
Mirren's two-piece suit was just that, but it was the mix of her rounded lapels, a perfectly placed button, and rounded-toe flats that gave the outfit a modern, youthful spin. She sported a white buttoned shirt beneath the jacket and carried a sparkly black clutch like a pro. And, as if her silver hair wasn't already perfect, Mirren slicked it back and opted for a fresh-out-the-shower 'do that complemented her bright red lip and pearl earrings. Following the premiere, the beauty flocked to the city's Parkview Lounge, where she and her castmates celebrated their hard work in style.
In the new film (also starring Aaron Paul, Barkhad Abdi, and the late Alan Rickman), the Golden Globe-winning actress portrays Colonel Katherine Powell, a military official based in the U.K. who's tasked with capturing terrorists in Kenya. The plot line quickly unfolds and Powell is faced with tackling not just a suicide bombing, but the life of a 9-year-old girl. Not impressed yet? Mirren recently told Today's Savannah Guthrie the role was originally written for a man. It's safe to say she nailed it.
Eye in the Sky hits theaters on March 11.
