Claire Danes turns 34 today, and the Emmy-winning star of Showtime's hit show Homeland (don't pretend like you aren't obsessed!) has spent more than half of those years in the public eye. She first hit the scene in a major way in 1994—at 15 years old—as Angela Chase in the cult-classic My So-Called Life, and just two years later she starred as one half of literature's most famous star-crossed duo in Baz Luhrmann's glittery, punk-driven modern re-make of Romeo + Juliet. Even as a young woman, she showed a mature approach to life. "Physical appearance is a huge part of our existence," Danes told InStyle for our July 1999 issue. "You can't totally deny or ignore it, but you can't turn it into a measure of your self-worth." Such wise words. Happy birthday, Claire!
