Are they or aren’t they? That’s the question on everyone’s mind when it comes to Justin Bieber and his rumored girlfriend, model Hailey Baldwin. The pair has been relatively quiet ever since they first sent Instagram into a frenzy with their PDA-filled snaps over the holidays and matching braided hairstyles, and their recent lack of lovin’ on social media has left us wondering what the true status of their relationship really is. Until now, when Baldwin herself is setting the record straight.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” she told reporters at Wednesday night’s amfAR New York Gala at Cipriani Wall Street. “We’ve been really close friends for a long time now, and we just support each other—we have a lot of fun together.” They may not be official, but that doesn’t mean the pair has cooled off entirely. And with their every move made in the public eye, you can count on them to keep things casual—at least for now. “Relationships at this age are so complicated as it is,” said 19-year-old Baldwin, adding that it’s especially the case “with somebody who’s about to go on tour.”
While Baldwin may not be publicly declaring her love for the pop star any time soon (unlike Bieber, who just gushed about his feelings for her in a new GQ article), she’s not quite saying that the two aren’t together. “I just don’t like to talk about it, because it’s something that’s personal between me and him,” explained Baldwin. “And the more I talk about it, the less personal it is.”
Labels aside, Baldwin is willing to open up about one thing related to her love life: her ideal plans for Valentine’s Day. “I would just want to be with the person in general and do something low-key,” she said. “I’m not really for huge romantic gestures—it makes me uncomfortable.” You hear that, Biebs? Take note—and listen up, because Baldwin is revealing exactly what she’d want for her simple dream date. “Some flowers, a dinner, and then let’s just go watch TV and chill,” she said. Of course, Baldwin will be wearing something sexy for the occasion. Her go-to V-Day outfit? “A good black dress—just an LBD!”
