On the heels of Goop’s hotly anticipated holiday gift guide, Gwyneth Paltrow took to Instagram Thursday to talk up another one of her upcoming projects: Apple’s tech reality competition, Planet of the Apps.
Though we’re so excited to see Paltrow try her hand at reality TV judging, we aren’t here to talk about that. More important is the medium behind the message—the 44-year-old gave the show a subtle plug in her Instagram caption, but it’s the photo itself that’s stopping us in our tracks.

On Thursday, Paltrow posted a fresh-faced selfie to the social media platform, showcasing her luminous skin and sly smile. “At a red light on this beautiful fall sunny California day, on my way to set for day 4 of #planetoftheapps.@garyvee @jessicaalba and @iamwill are having so much fun,” the actress wrote.
When one of Hollywood’s most celebrated pillars of glamour showcases her natural beauty in a public forum, it’s empowering, to say the least.
Even more empowering than the photo itself is the fact that Paltrow didn’t even acknowledge her barefaced look in the caption—and why should she? Forgoing a swipe of mascara shouldn’t be seen as a political or personal statement, but it is.
Thank you, Gwyneth, for sharing your beautiful face with the world.
